Honda Parts Finder at Motorbike Planet

If you need a spare part for your Honda motorcycle then the easiest way to find the item is on the Honda motorcycle parts finder at www.motorbikeplanet.co.uk. It’s a really easy way to order the parts you need from the comfort of your own home. The parts finder can be found on the home page of www.motorbikeplanet.co.uk under the ‘PARTS’ heading.

The first thing you need to do is register so that you can view the parts finder. You will be asked for your name, address, telephone number and an e-mail address and a password of your choice. When you have entered these details it will take you to the parts finder.

We have most bikes listed on the parts finder from year 2000 onwards. The bikes are listed in three separate categories – Road Bikes, Motocross Bikes and Scooters. Select the year of your motorcycle from the drop down menu. You will then be given a list of models to choose from. When you have selected your bike model and year it will show you all the parts diagrams for that motorcycle.
The parts diagrams are listed in alphabetical order. Simply click into the page describing the area of bike that you need parts for and you will see a close up shot of the exploded parts diagram. Each available part
has a number pointing to it. Look for the corresponding number on the list under the diagram and it will give you a description of the part, the part number, price per item and the recommended quantity (REC QTY). The Recommended quantity tells you how many of that part are needed if you bought all of them shown on the diagram. It is not a pack quantity! If the Recommended Quantity is 10 and you just order 1 you will only receive 1. Finally put the amount that you wish to buy in the box, add them to your basket and continue to the check out. What could be easier?!

Sometimes you may have to give us a call or send an e-mail if you need a colour matched part for your bike. Some of the diagrams list different colours as Type 1, Type 2 etc. You will not know which type you need until you let us know your colour code and we can work it out for you. Some of the diagrams do list the colour code which makes it easy for you to get the correct colour matched part. Your colour code is usually found on a sticker under the seat of your bike. Giving us this code and your chassis number will ensure that you get the correct part.

A Parts Diagram

On most of the diagrams there is a little arrow with FR on it. This shows you which way the front of the bike is so you can easily work out which side is left and which is right. Honda always describes parts as you are sat on the bike so if order a right hand indicator you will receive the right hand one as you are sat on your bike.

The Honda parts finder is a brilliant tool to use at any time. It is often difficult to try and describe the part you are looking for and seeing a diagram makes it very easy to identify the parts you need. It also gives you a basic idea of how the parts all fit together. The diagrams are Genuine Honda diagrams and the same ones are used by all Honda motorcycle dealerships. The part numbers shown are also Genuine Honda part numbers so if you don’t want to order the parts on-line you can always call up with a list of part numbers and we will be able to process your order immediately for you.

Please take the time to view our Honda Motorcycle Parts Finder. You will find it a very interesting and useful area of our web site so it’s well worth a look!

What To Expect From The Shoei XR1100 Helmet

If you had to describe the Shoei XR1100 helmet in few words, they would certainly be: excellent ventilation, top marks for safety, comfortable, quiet and excellent build quality. In other terms, one of the best!

One of the notable features of the XR-1100 is the vents on the top. As well as the expected chin and forehead inlet vents, it’s got four cool-looking exhaust vents on the top rear of the shell. And the good news is that the ventilation works very well.

Also, it’s worth noting that Shoei have one of the best and quickest visor removal mechanisms of all – great when you need to clean your visor regularly if you use your bike daily.

The outer shell is made in AIM+, which is an organic fibre and high performance fibre in various layers for a shock-absorbent shell. Even though the shell is highly rigid, it is also amazingly lightweight. You can almost forget your helmet once you’ve put it on.

The entire lining is removable and machine washable. Small tip: make sure you place it in a pillow case first. You can also wash the whole helmet in the shower, using some baby shampoo. In both cases, you will feel like having a new hygienic helmet every time!
It has also big ear cutaways for your intercom speakers or earphones.

Well, if you’re trying to get a balance between cost, safety and performance amongst the current crop of crash helmets for sale (and aren’t we all?) then the Shoei XR-1100 is definitely one of the best placed helmets on the market.

This is the full range of colours available for the Shoei XR-1100. You can purchase you helmet in store at Honda Of Bournemouth or from their on-line shop www.motorbikeplanet.co.uk.

Setting the Suspension on A CBR1000RR Fireblade

Our sales director John rides a 2013 CBR1000RR Fireblade which he absolutely loves! However, having access to Honda trained technicians means that he does like to have an occasional tinker with the bike so it is set up perfectly for him. Recently John decided it was time for the suspension to be tailored to suit him personally so he booked the bike into the workshop to have it sorted.
Measuring the travel on the front end

The first thing Mitch, our diagnostic technician, did was to measure the travel on the front and rear of the bike with the wheels off the ground so there was no weight on the suspension. After jotting down these measurements it was time to get John to sit on the bike. The measurements were taken again in the same place and Mitch was then able to work out the equations to see how far the preload was out for John’s weight. It turns out the front was too soft and the rear was too hard.

When the front end is too soft it compresses too quickly which can make the front end feel vague. Mitch adjusted the compression on the front forks to suit John then turned his attention to the back of the bike. The rear suspension was too hard. This means that the bike doesn’t get enough traction under acceleration and can cause wheel spinning. When Mitch had adjusted the rear suspension so it was suitable for John he checked his previous measurements again to make sure his adjustments were correct.
Measuring with John sat on the bike

The next step was to sort out the rebound. The front rebound controls how quickly the bike comes back up after being compressed by braking or cornering and affects the weight transfer on corner entry and exit. To change the rate of rebound Mitch adjusted it by turning a screwdriver in the adjusters on top of the forks and counting the required amount of clicks. The rear rebound gives you traction by keeping the rear wheel in contact with the road surface. When the rear rebound is too hard it can cause loss of traction. Mitch adjusted the shock using the C spanner included in the bikes original tool kit.

Adjusting the front forks

Finally, John sat on the bike once again for all of the measurements to be checked one last time. When Mitch was satisfied that everything had gone well John was able to take the bike out for a test ride. When he got back the grin on his face was enough to tell us that even the slight adjustments that were made had enhanced his enjoyment of the bike.

Adjusting the rear shock

You can book your bike into our workshops to have your suspension tailored to your own needs. It only takes about an hour and can really improve the feel of your bike. The original settings on all Honda motorcycles are really good. Honda has spent a lot of money and time on research so your new bike has the best set up for the average person. We all know that no biker is average so getting your bike set up to suit you is an affordable luxury that is an investment in your future riding pleasure!!

Held Air N Dry Gore-Tex Gloves

When riding here in the UK you can never predict the weather. You might start your ride in blazing sunshine but within a couple of hours the clouds can gather and the rains will come and not stop for the rest of the morning. Most riders will either take a chance and wear their summer gloves and hope it doesn’t rain too hard or take a spare pair of waterproof gloves just in case. Now there is a solution! Held has invented a brilliant pair of gloves that give you two options within one pair of gloves. These gloves consist of two separate hand chambers. The first one will keep you dry and the second one is ventilated to keep you cool on hot days. Now you never need take two pairs of gloves out with you again!
Held Air N Dry Glove
The Held Air N Dry are a Gore-tex  glove and  feature a Gore 2in1 system and it is so easy to change between the two different chambers. At the top of the gloves there is a tab. Push the tab towards the back of the glove and you can slip you hand into the ‘Dry’ chamber. This section guarantees protection against rain and sweat. When the weather clears and it gets warm and dry you simply take off the gloves, push the tab forward towards the front of the gloves and slide your hands in to the ‘Breezy’ chamber. This is an unlined section that offers optimal ventilation and great feel of the controls. The Held Air N Dry is a slim fitting glove so the two separate chambers do not add extra bulk.  When you are wearing the gloves you can’t feel the two separate sections. Each chamber just feels as if you are wearing a normal glove.

Kangeroo Leather Palm

As well as being a very practical glove the Held Air N Dry also offers plenty of protection. The palm is made of kangaroo leather which is highly abrasion resistant. Kangaroos only sweat through their tail and tongue so there are no pores in their hide. This means that when kangaroo leather gets wet through rain or sweat the structure stays fixed and doesn’t become hard or shrinks like cow leather can. There is hard armour across the knuckle area and Superfabric reinforcements on the edge of the hand. Superfabric is a really tough material that is highly abrasion and cut resistant. It is made of a mix of 32% polyester and 68% epoxy resin. It is incredibly flexible and protective and Held use it to reinforce crash zones on many of their garments. The gloves also feature reflective areas to help with visibility in poor conditions.

Tab To Change Between Chambers

The Held Air N Dry gloves are really comfortable to wear. They have Velcro adjusters on the wrists and cuffs and stretch panels on the back to ensure a perfect fit. The hand is perforated for maximum ventilation and comfort. There is also a really handy visor wipe.
I can really recommend these gloves. They are tough and durable enough to be worn every day. They offer waterproofing, wind proofing and breathability in the wet and brilliant ventilation when it’s warm and dry. The Held Air n Dry gloves cost £134.99 from www.motorbikeplanet.co.uk. I think this is great value as you couldn’t buy one pair of Gore-Tex gloves and one pair of summer gloves for this price. They are sporty looking, stylish gloves that offer convenience, protection and practicality. What more could you want from one pair of gloves?!

ALPINESTAR QUICK SEAL OUT OVERJACKET & TROUSERS

I ride my motorcycle all year round and this July we have been so lucky with the weather and I have been out enjoying the beautiful sunshine on my ride to work. Unfortunately the weather in the last few days has been a little unpredictable and what starts out as a beautiful summer morning will turn into thundery downpours by late afternoon as I am leaving work. I like to wear my Alpinestars Atem leather jacket in the summer and although it is a fantastic jacket it was never meant to be waterproof in the kind of weather conditions that I’ve ridden through recently. I don’t want to give in and put my Gore-Tex jacket and trousers on yet as for me this says that autumn has arrived and I still believe we have a bit more summer to enjoy yet! My only option is to invest in a waterproof over jacket that I can keep with the bike and put on when it rains.
I’ve done lots of research on-line and I have decided to go to Honda Of Bournemouth on Saturday to take a look at the Alpinestars Quick Seal Out Waterproof Jacket & Pants set.  It looks good on their web site www.motorbikeplanet.co.uk so I’ll try it on with my leathers to see how it fits. I’ll let you know how it goes……..
Quick Seal Out Set In Black
Quick Seal Out Set In Yellow

I am now the proud owner of a set of Alpinestars Quick Seat Out jacket & pants set in fluo yellow. It’s really, really bright but I reckon on a rainy day the brighter the clothes, the more likely I am to be seen. I put the jacket on first over my Alpinestars Atem jacket.  I expected it to be tight around the chest due to the hump on the back of my Atem jacket which would then make it baggy around the waist. I was pleasantly surprised. The over jacket fits neatly over the leather jacket and fits quite snugly all around. There are Velcro adjusters at the waist so if you like your over jackets to fit a bit tighter you can pull it in if you want to. The sleeves are a little bit long for me but I do have short arms and the cuffs are elasticated so they stay neatly out of the way when I’m riding. There is also Velcro around the collar which does a great job of keeping the jacket closed against the elements.
Quick Seal Out Jacket
I have to admit to laughing at myself when I put the trousers on. The waist is quite high which was probably quite trendy in the 1950s but no so much now. It may not be the most fashionable look ever but on a practical level it’s brilliant. The high waist comes up over my Atem jacket so there is an overlap between jacket and trousers so no water can get in at all even when I’m leaning forward on my bike. The trousers also proved to be easy to get on. I rode my bike down to Honda Of Bournemouth to try on the Quick Seal Out set so I was already wearing my summer biking gear. I have struggled before when putting on waterproof over trousers over my boots. I have stood in a sudden downpour at the side of the road, hopping around on one leg while I try in
Quick Seal Out Trousers
vain to inch the trousers over my boots. Often I would give up and take the boots off meaning I got really wet feet. There’s no point in being lovely and dry if getting that way means you have to ride home with squelchy socks! The Quick Seal Out trousers have a lovely wide opening which slips on over my boots with ease. They have Velcro adjusters (and lot of them to keep it nice and tight) so you can close the opening neatly to whatever fit you require. There is a drawstring adjuster on the waist of the trousers too so they don’t fall down when you get off the bike.
The Alpinestars Quick Seal Out jacket and trousers have proved to be 100% waterproof on numerous occasions now. They are also breathable so you don’t have that sticky feeling that you get with a lot of lesser quality waterproofs. It’s comfortable and quiet – it doesn’t flap about in the wind when I’m riding –and best of all it comes with its own carry bag so I can stow it away neatly when I’m not wearing it. The Alpinestars Quick Seal Out is also available in black and I’m told there will be an orange version for 2014 so whether you like to be seen in day-glo yellow or prefer your kit to be a little more subtle there’s a choice of colours for you.
Overall I’d give the Alpinestars Quick Seal Out jacket and trousers 10/10 for waterproofing, practicality and ease of use. It may not be the most fashionable piece of kit but it definitely the most stylish 2 piece set of waterproofs I’ve ever seen and I don’t care too much about looks when they get me home completely dry through any storm! You can get your Alpinestars Quick Seal Out Jacket & Pants at www.motorbikeplanet.co.uk or in store at Honda Of Bournemouth.

Muc-Off 8 in 1 Cleaning Kit
1.      Muc-Off 1 litre Bio Nano Tech Cleaner: This 1 litre bottle containing the bright pink cleaner is absolutely brilliant. It just makes cleaning your bike so easy. It is both bike and environment friendly as it is non-toxic and fully biodegradable. It contains no solvents, CFC’s or harmful acids that can damage the paintwork or metal components on your bike. The ‘Nano Tech’ mentioned in the name of the cleaner refers to the ‘Nano scale’ materials used to make up the cleaner. These materials are about 1/8000th of the diameter of a human hair. Most bike cleaners are formulated using ‘micro scale’ materials which are about 1/80th the size of a human hair. This huge difference in material scale means that the Muc-Off Nano Tech Bike Cleaner can get much deeper into the dirt on your bike and will break it down so it is then easily rinsed off with clean water. It leaves behind corrosion inhibitors to protect your bike.  The Nano sized particles also fill all of the microscopic uneven surfaces on your bike and bond together to form a smooth protective layer which makes it harder to grime to stick to it. The bottle has a spray attachment so it is easy to squirt all over your bike!
2.      Muc-Off Bike Spray After Wash: This is a 500ml spray to use on your bike after you have washed
Muc-Off Bike Spray
it. It has a very high oil content which makes it brilliant at inhibiting corrosion. It drives out the moisture and leaves a beautiful finish on the bike. The best part is that, unlike some other after wash sprays, it doesn’t leave a sticky residue over the bike so more dirt doesn’t stick to it! The Muc-Off After Wash Bike Spray contains PTFE which leaves a protective lubricating film on all parts that it is sprayed on to. It is also great at helping to free up seized parts. This product is a must have if you want to reduce cleaning and maintenance times in the future which leaves you more time to actually ride your bike! Make sure you don’t spray the Bio Nano Tech Cleaner or the Bike Spray After Wash on a hot engine or exhaust. Leave them to cool down before use.
