The Held Black 8 touring jacket is great if you are looking for a waterproof jacket to keep you warm in winter and cool for sunnier days. This is possible thanks to the removable thermal liner inside of the jacket.
On the outside the jacket is made of DuPont material known for its durability and resistance to abrasions, tears and scuffs. It is well-designed and has a lot of pockets that are handy to keep your stuff in. (4 internals and 4 externals).
The mesh lining would allows good ventilation while riding. The membrane inside is waterproof, windproof and breathable. The jacket is longer at the back to protect your lower back while in the riding position.
Protection wise, this jacket has CE approved shoulder and elbow protectors. You can remove them when you want to wash it. The foam protector at the back can be removed if you wish to upgrade your jacket with a proper back protector from Held (see below). The connection zip at the bottom of the jacket will allow you to connect it with the matching trousers (the Gamble pants).
A bonus with this jacket is that it has a lot of reflective elements on the chest, shoulders, arms and back, as you can see on the picture. It even achieves the reflector norm for France.
This jacket would fit everybody. It has a waist adjustment in order to provide a comfortable fit, and the arms can even be adjusted as well.
The back protector
We tested the jacket with the upgraded back protector instead of the foam padding. It fits really well. You get different sizes depending on the size of your jacket. The back protector is flexible and light so that you don’t feel it when you are walking around. It is also hard enough to protect your spine in case of an accident. It offers optimal impact protection. It is breathable due to the perforation. It is obviously CE certified.
The Gamble trousers are the pants that match the Black 8 jacket. They are touring pants with the same features as the jacket. The detachable thermal liner will keep you warm in winter. Just take it off if it is getting warmer outside! The membrane is waterproof, wind proof and breathable.
These trousers have a lot of feature, including 5 external pockets, plenty of air-vents zips to keep you cool when needed and a waist belt to allow you a great fit. A bonus with this item is that there is a leather anti-slip seat patch.
The knee protectors are CE approved, and there is special foam padding at the hips. You can of course upgrade the trousers by adding hard hip protectors. The reflective sections will allow you to be seen in poor conditions or at night time. Finally, you can connect both jacket and trousers together thanks to the special connecting zip.
The gloves are made of a mix of leather and textile. The palm is in goatskin, which is highly abrasion resistant and it is doubled for even more safety. The outer shell is covered by a TFL cool system. This system is a revolutionary treatment which helps to reflect solar radiation and helps keep you cool. There is a Gore-Tex membrane inside of the gloves which is fully waterproof and breathable.
This pair of gloves will stay firmly in place thanks to two Velcro flaps. The first one is situated at the wrist and the second one, wider, is placed at the cuff to allow you a great fit either underneath or on your jacket.
There is a visor wipe on the left hand which is convenient on wet days. Elasticated panels on back, thumb and fingers make these gloves very comfortable.
These gloves offer plenty of protection. There is Temperfoam knuckle protection and Superfabric reinforcements on the edge of the hand.
