MotoGP Season Kicks Off in Qatar

The MotoGP season officially started last weekend with the first race on the 8th April in Qatar – and what a race it was! With a last minute change over, Jorge Lorenzo is the man who takes the first podium.

Casey Stoner, the Australian favourite this season, led the Qatar race for the majority whilst right at the last minute, Jorge Lorenzo swoops in to take the lead and win with just three laps remaining.

Stoner, who rides for the Honda Repsol team, was suffering from Arm Pump as the race drew to a close and was also overtaken by his Honda Repsol teammate Dani Pedrosa.  Lorenzo, who rides for Yamaha, saw his opportunity and took the lead with Pedrosa close behind him.

Pedrosa had a fantastic race as he shot straight into 2nd from the 7th place on the grid by the time he reached the first corner. Stoner moved past him at the end of the 2nd lap and then went on to pass Lorenzo as he crossed the finish line of lap 3. Stoner then worked on creating a gap between himself and Lorenzo and reached a 2-second lead.

Stoner has won the last 4 out of 6 Qatar races and was set to win his 5th when he started to suffer with Arm pump. This meant he slowly started to drop back and was caught up by the two Spanish riders. He was disappointed with finishing 3rd but as the first race, still feels he has plenty of opportunity to win the season.
With a great weekend of racing, we cannot wait for the next race to take place on the 29th April at the Gran Premio in Jerez, Spain.
